NEB Festival in June reflections and learning

Building on the May Council Recommendation on the NEB adopted from the Commission Communication New European Bauhaus: From vision to implementation, as part of the European Housing Package, the NEB Festival 2026 showcased all that the NEB initiative is.

As a vibrant platform for NEB innovation, creativity and constructive exchange, the third edition of the NEB Festival hosted over 4,000 participants, with five days of discussions, exhibitions, performances, film screenings and nearly 200 NEB Satellite events in Brussels and beyond:

  • European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced an additional €50 million for the NEB Academy; and the new catalogue of NEB blueprints on affordable and resilient homes was officially launched.
  • More than 60 exhibitors from across the EU and beyond brought the Fair to life with their projects and prototypes, including several from the UK.
  • More than 100 speakers, 200 artists performing live and 1400 visitors in interactive workshops, the Festival demonstrated the strength and diversity of a community committed to building a more sustainable, inclusive and beautiful future together.

Recordings of the Forum and Fest sessions are available on the NEB YouTube channel. Highlights from the Festival are captured in this short video as well as FORUM sessions and FEST performances.

Updated NEB Glossary of key terms and definitions

The glossary of the NEB Facility part of the Horizon Europe ‘main’ Work Programme 2026-2027 now makes it easier for applicants to NEB Horizon Europe funding calls to access information on relevant definitions as it draws together in a single document information from both the NEB Work Programme and the Q&A for NEB Horizon Europe calls from the EC Funding & Tenders Portal. (The document sits on the NEB funding calls site.)

NEB and Local Authorities event recording

On 24 June, the NEB Community Spotlight session explored what the New European Bauhaus means in practice for municipalities, local authorities and public sector actors. Speakers shared experiences ranging from Amsterdam’s recently launched Local Chapter and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown’s adaptive reuse of vacant heritage buildings, to a senior-housing and social-centre regeneration project near Modena and Ghent’s neighbourhood-based urban renewal methodology. The discussion explored common funding, coordination, and community engagement challenges, as well as the role of NEB principles as a lens for planning, design and implementation.

The NEB Lab aims to connect Local Authorities with the same common challenges.
