ERC Proof Of Concept 2023 – Second Deadline Results

The European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA) has awarded 66 new Proof of Concept (PoC) Grants, worth €150 000 each, in the second round of the European Research Council (ERC) PoC 2023 call.

In this call, 183 proposals were evaluated, out of which 66 projects in 14 countries were selected for funding. The successful research projects cover a wide area of research, with 58% linked to physical sciences and engineering, 33% to life sciences, and 9% to social sciences and humanities.

UK-based ERC grant holders were awarded eight ERC PoC grants, after Spain (12) and Germany (9). The full list of winners by host institution and country is available on the ERC Website.

Applying to the next funding round

Only ERC grantees with ongoing or recently completed ERC Starting, Consolidator, Advanced, or Synergy Grants are eligible to apply for funding in the ERC PoC 2023 call. This call has an annual budget of €30 million, and has three deadlines for proposals in January, April and September 2023. Eligible ERC grantees still have the opportunity to apply for PoC funding in the third and final round of the ERC PoC 2023, by 21 September 2023.

Should the UK not be associated to Horizon Europe by the time the final grant signature for a successful ERC PoC 2023 application is required, the total eligible costs will be covered under the UKRI Horizon Europe Guarantee as the final submission deadline for this round is before 30 September 2023.
