Revised European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity Released by ALLEA

A revised version of the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity has been published by the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities (ALLEA).

The new edition addresses heightened sensibilities in the research community to mechanisms of discrimination and exclusion and the responsibility of all actors to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion. It also takes account of changes in data management practices, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and recent developments in Open Science and research assessment. The Code covers:

  • Fundamental principles of research integrity
  • Good research practices
  • Violations of research integrity.

The document serves the European research community as a framework for self-regulation across all scientific disciplines and for all research settings. At the European level, the European Commission uses the Code as a reference document for all EU-funded research projects. The first version of Code was published in 2011 jointly with the European Science Foundation (ESF). ALLEA reviews the document every three to five years to address any emerging issues.
