Next step in the UK-Ukraine Horizon Europe Initiative: project ideas now available for UK partners

We are pleased to announce the next phase of the UK–Ukraine collaboration initiative, delivered with support from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science, and the UK and Ukraine Horizon Europe Offices.

Following a nationwide call, Ukrainian universities have now submitted a rich collection of project ideas designed to foster deeper academic cooperation, strengthen research partnerships, and stimulate innovation exchange with UK higher education institutions. These ideas — now compiled and ready for review — represent a significant milestone in our joint efforts to build strong, competitive consortia for upcoming Horizon Europe 2026 and 2027 Work Programme opportunities.

What UK universities can expect

The newly released database brings together project concepts across eight key thematic areas that reflect shared research priorities in both countries:

  • Agriculture, Food & Bioeconomy
  • Cultural Heritage & Creative Industries
  • Digital, AI, Industry & Smart Systems
  • Education, Society & Governance
  • Energy, Climate & Environment
  • Health & Biomedical Research
  • Open Science, Research & Innovation
  • Transport, Mobility & Infrastructure

The full list of project ideas can be accessed here: Project_ideas_UK-UA_Horizon_Europe_Support.xlsx

Each entry provides a clear snapshot of the proposal, including its objectives, envisioned impact, and potential avenues for partnership. Collectively, the ideas highlight the depth of Ukrainian scientific expertise, the commitment of institutions to innovation-led collaboration, and their readiness to co-develop high-quality proposals with UK researchers.

What Happens Next

1. Connecting with Ukrainian Researchers

UK researchers and institutional staff are warmly invited to review the project ideas and contact the Cormack Consultancy Group (CCG) if they wish to be connected with Ukrainian teams.

When reaching out, please specify the exact project number(s) from the Excel file that you are interested in discussing. This will help the coordination team facilitate targeted introductions and support early conversations around shared priorities and potential collaboration.

2. Upcoming matchmaking event – early December

As the next step in this initiative, a dedicated UK–Ukraine matchmaking event will be hosted in early December. During this session, universities will present and pitch their project ideas to help identify strong potential partnerships and lay the groundwork for joint Horizon Europe proposals.

Further details, including registration information and the agenda, will be shared shortly.
