The European Commission has appointed ten new members of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Board and renewed the appointments of ten existing ones.
Under Horizon Europe legislation, the Board has a central role to guide the strategy and implementation of the EIC as Europe’s flagship innovation programme with a budget of more than €10 billion. The EIC Board, led by its President (currently Michiel Scheffer) advises on the strategy, Work Programme and thematic portfolios and the Commission can request advice on broader innovation policy matters.
Members of the Board act in a personal capacity and are appointed for a two-year term of office, renewable twice (with the aim of rotating approximately one third of the members every two years). The mandate of the new and renewed members is for two years until December 2025.
The first meeting of the new Board is due to take place in Leuven, on 10 and 11 January 2024.
