MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023 Resources

To support researchers in successfully writing a proposal for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) 2023 call, UKRO has compiled a list of resources relevant to this call.

This call will close on 13 September 2023 (5:00 CET).

European Commission (EC) Resources

  • The EC has published all supporting information for the MSCA PF 2023 call on their call website.
  • The EC has also provided resources such as the ‘Guidelines on the calculation of 8-years research experience in Postdoctoral Fellowships under Horizon Europe’, on a separate ‘How to Apply’ website.
  • The EC has provided applicants and those supporting them with a list of the common mistakes when submitting a MSCA PF 2023 proposal. It is strongly advised to check this list while setting up MSCA PF proposals, in particular when declaring the budget and encoding host institution(s).
  • The EC has published a tool, ‘ResearchComp: The European Competence Framework for Researchers’ which is aimed at researchers, higher education institutions, training providers, and employers. This tool can be used to assess an applicant’s skills and knowledge and identify their training needs as well as to support higher education institutions in developing targeted training for researchers. Applicants can use this tool to assess their current skill set and identify training needs when preparing their application.

MSCA-NET Resources

  • The MSCA-NET Project has published an unofficial MSCA PF 2023 call Handbook to support researchers applying to this call. This document is not a substitute of official documents published by the European Commission, which in all cases must be considered as binding. As such, this document is to be used in addition to the official call documents.
  • As previously reported by UKRO, the MSCA-NET project has provided statistical analyses of the MSCA PF 2021 call and MSCA PF 2022 call.  Applicants can thus gain an overview of the application statistics and success rates for previous MSCA PF calls.
  • The MSCA-NET Project has published several policy briefs in order to support applicants in understanding EU policy priorities in the context of the MSCA. The following policy briefs are available:
  • When planning secondments, the non-academic placement and/or a Global Fellowship, researchers and/or research staff might have specific questions related to the country of the host institution. In these cases, applicants and research staff are advised to directly contact the MSCA National Contact Points (NCP) for different countries.

UKRO-specific resources for subscribers

  • UKRO has published a set of Q&A slides to support subscribers and those applying with them when writing applications.
  • UKRO has previously published a list of FAQs for the MSCA PF 2022 call, which is still valid for the 2023 call. An updated FAQ list will be published in the coming weeks.
  • Following subscriber queries, UKRO has published several guidance articles on MSCA. Subscribers are invited to use the ‘search function’ to find these on the UKRO portal and/or contact the UK MSCA NCP in case of specific questions.
