George Freeman, Minister of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), has reiterated the UK government’s commitment to seeking association to Horizon Europe.
The Minister repeated this intention during a keynote speech hosted by the Think-tank ‘Onward’ entitled ‘Science
Superpower: the UKs Global Science Strategy beyond Horizon Europe’. During the speech, the Minister outlined the UK’s intention to be a global ‘science superpower’ with a target of spending 2.4% of UK’s GDP on Research and Development. A recording of the speech is available online with a follow-up webinar planned for 12 January, covering the topic ‘Science Superpower: the UKs Global Science Strategy beyond Horizon Europe’.
Mr Freeman stated that association remains the UK’s intention, but alternatives continue to be explored if this is not possible and support continues to be offered via the Horizon Europe Guarantee. No further details were given but full information on the guarantee and latest developments can be found on UKRO’s dedicated webpage.
