Indian Co-funding Mechanism for Horizon Europe Announced

The Government of India has announced that it will co-fund successful Indian entities in 11 call topics under the current Horizon Europe Work Programme for 2023 and 2024. Six of these calls are currently open for submission.

Horizon Europe is, in principle, open to the world and entities from India can participate in all calls open to third country participants. However, Indian entities must, in principle, fund their own participation. For this, the Government of India – the Department of Science & Technology (DST), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) – have agreed to provide funding to successful Indian entities in the pre-selected 11 call topics.

This co-funding mechanism was established in the framework of the EU-India Agreement on Science and Technology and follows similar arrangements that existed under Horizon 2020.

The co-funding will allow for joint research in several areas of mutual interest aiming at addressing global challenges in the area of health, digital technologies, climate change, circular economy, clean energy, agri-tech and climate action. It applies only to those call topics that have been pre-selected by the Government of India and are listed on the EURAXESS India website.

The EU Delegation to India and the Government of India, in association with EURAXESS India, will organise dedicated information sessions targeting potential Indian and European applicants in the coming weeks. Further information will be provided on the EURAXESS India website.
