UK-based researchers and innovators who are wishing to apply for the Horizon Europe guarantee are reminded that the final application deadline is approaching.
The UK has been associated to Horizon Europe since January 2024.
Now that all remaining guarantee-eligible calls (those in the 2021, 2022, or 2023 Work Programmes) have announced their results, nearly all potential applicants should be in a position to apply to the guarantee.
We would like to remind applicants to the Horizon Europe guarantee about the already advertised application deadlines.
This is to ensure all eligible individuals can apply in good time, and before the final deadline of 27 November 2025.
What this means for applicants
The guarantee will continue to support UK-based researchers and innovators who receive a formal notification of success from the European Commission (EC) for Horizon Europe Work Programme 2021, 2022 and 2023 calls.
Those who have not yet applied for funding through the guarantee must submit their applications to UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) by 27 November 2025 at 4pm UK time.
Applicants will have a minimum of three months from notification of success from the EC to apply to UKRI.
This includes those who are notified later, as they will still be able to access support and funding through the guarantee.
Projects already funded by the Horizon Europe guarantee will continue to receive support as planned.
There will be no disruption to ongoing funding arrangements.
Encourage researchers to seize opportunities on offer
Science Minister Lord Vallance said:
The Horizon Guarantee has been an invaluable resource for thousands of UK researchers, businesses, and institutions, helping them access funding and collaborate with international colleagues while the UK’s association to Horizon was negotiated.
The Guarantee’s job is not quite done, and it is important everyone who still stands to benefit from its support does so before the deadline.
Onwards from here, we are bullish about maximising the UK success through Horizon, and we are supporting the sector with grants, events, and a marketing campaign to encourage more of our innovators and researchers to seize the opportunities on offer.
Access the world’s largest collaborative initiative
The guarantee was introduced to ensure that UK applicants who were successful in securing Horizon Europe funding were not disadvantaged while association negotiations took place.
With the UK’s participation in Horizon Europe now secured, UK researchers, businesses, and innovators can once again apply directly to the programme with confidence, accessing the world’s largest collaborative research and innovation initiative.
We are incredibly proud of the success and impact the Horizon Europe guarantee scheme has had in supporting UK-based researchers and innovators.
Partnering on global challenges
To date the guarantee has supported over 4,300 projects with more than £2.18 billion in funding.
This has supported UK innovators and researchers to partner on global challenges.
This includes:
- Strolll Limited’s artificial intelligence-powered augmented reality tool to assist Parkinson’s patients
- UK’s role in major European collaborations like the ‘Process Attribution of Regional Emissions’ and ‘Artificial intelligence in fighting illicit drugs production and trafficking’ projects, tackling emissions and organised crime
Instrumental in supporting UK researchers
Professor Christopher Smith, UKRI International Champion said:
The Horizon Europe Guarantee has been instrumental in supporting UK researchers and innovators, ensuring they stayed at the forefront of global science and innovation while a deal with the European commission was reached.
This lifeline demonstrated the power of sustained investment and the importance of international collaboration.
I strongly encourage all eligible applicants to take advantage of the Guarantee before the deadline, and to embrace the opportunities that full participation in Horizon Europe will bring.
