FRONTIERS science journalism residency programme

The FRONTIER team invites research institutions and projects to express their interest in hosting a science journalist as part of the FRONTIERS Residency Programme, by joining the database of potential host institutions.

The FRONTIERS Database is a public list of research institutions and projects that have expressed interest in hosting a science journalist for a residency. It is available on the FRONTIERS website and regularly updated. The database is a starting point for applicants when identifying a host institution, though inclusion in the database is not required to be eligible as a host.

About FRONTIERS

FRONTIERS is a science journalism residency programme funded by the European Research Council (ERC). FRONTIERS fellowships support journalists who wish to cover frontier science topics from within research institutions in EU Member States or countries associated with the Horizon Europe Programme.

The current call for applications—open until 6 May 2025—targets early-career science journalists (with up to five years of experience) and supports residencies of 3 to 5 months. Fellows are invited to collaborate closely with scientists to produce in-depth, independent reporting on frontier research.
