The EU Science Diplomacy Alliance is a collaborative initiative aiming at sustaining the dialogue on EU science diplomacy and cultivating new opportunities to progress theory and practice of science diplomacy in Europe.
The Alliance has published a policy brief as a contribution to the ongoing discussion on future research requirements in the final Work Programme of Horizon Europe 2025-2027.
In particular, the brief recommends three strategic interrelated goals to orient actions supported by Horizon Europe in the current geopolitical situation:
- Safeguard and promote European principles and values of research – as open as possible, respecting research freedom, integrity, and gender equality; as closed as necessary.
- Deploy scientific cooperation in ‘the European neighbourhood’, with consideration to countries that neighbour the EU as well as the neighbours of the neighbours.
- Mobilise science and diplomacy for the global commons and for tackling the challenges of climate change, pandemic, digital transition, and green transition.
