Commissioners-designate Hearings in the European Parliament

The first role of the newly elected President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, was to select candidate Commissioners based on nominations from each EU country for different policy areas.

All Commissioners-designate are invited to appear before the appropriate committees of the European Parliament for confirmation hearings, which are scheduled to take place from the 4th to 12th November.

Ahead of the hearings, you can read the written answers of the Commissioners-designate to questions from the Parliament. The answers submitted by Ekaterina Zaharieva, the Commissioner-designate for Startups, Research and Innovation, can be accessed online.

Commissioner-designate Zaharieva’s hearing is scheduled for 5th November. She will report to the Committees on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and Culture and Education (CULT). The hearing will be live-streamed on the European Parliament website.

UKRO had previously reported on the mission letter addressed to Commissioner-delegate Zaharieva, which is also available for consultation. These documents provide crucial insights into the policy priorities for the upcoming European Commission and will pave the way for the consultations on FP10.

UKRO will follow the hearings and provide updates on the day.
