The ERC has shared preliminary submission data related to the 2024 Starting Grant call that closed on 7 November 2023.
As reported, the data shows that the ERC received 3,474 applications to the call, an increase of 29% compared to the previous year.
The highest number of applications was submitted in the domain of Physical Sciences and Engineering (1,466 – 42%) followed by Social Science and Humanities (1,029 – 30%), and Life Sciences (976 – 28%).
Women submitted nearly 40% of proposals, the same percentage as in the previous call and one percentage point less than in the 2022 Starting Grants competition.
The ERC Scientific Council has a budget of €601 million for an estimated 387 Starting Grants in 2024 and – as per the indicative timeline – projects selected for funding are planned to be announced in summer 2024.
