Universities UK International (UUKi) Global research and innovation conference 2024

31 October | London | In person | Open to all

Registrations are open for the UUKi one day conference on global research and innovation. This conference will convene leaders and experts in global research and innovation to help address key strategic questions – and to help set the agenda for the new government.

UUKi are excited to announce a highlight of the Global Research and Innovation Conference agenda: a highly anticipated ministerial address from Lord Patrick Vallance.

As the Minister of State for Science in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, Lord Patrick Vallance’ wealth of experience in the science and research sectors will provide invaluable insights. His address is set to shape the tone for the discussions that will follow, offering attendees a unique perspective on the future of UK science and innovation.

Our universities lie at the heart of the UK’s research and innovation ecosystem, and international collaboration is vital to our global reputation and impact. With a new government in place, it is critical moment to rethink the role international collaboration in research and innovation can play in achieving domestic and foreign policy objectives.

The conference will explore the following key questions:

  • How can our global R&I activities help the new government deliver its central priorities of national renewal and economic growth?
  • Is there any tension between global R&I to address shared challenges and serving the ‘national interest’?
  • What is the role of university R&I in supporting the foreign policy objectives of the new government?
  • How can we foster truly equitable partnerships that address global challenges?
  • How do we best make the case to a new government to support international R&I collaboration – and what do we need to do to maximise our impact?
