Information Event - ERC Public Engagement Awards
The UK Research Office (UKRO), in its capacity as UK National Contact Point for the European Research Council (ERC), organised an information event on 13 December 2021 from 13:00 - 14:00 UK time about the ERC's 2022 Public Engagement Award Competition which offers €10,000 prizes in three categories and has a deadline for submission on 3 February 2022.

Aim of the webinar
This information event provides applicants with information about the Public Engagement Awards which is a relatively new opportunity. The 2022 competition is the second call of its kind, following the pilot competition in 2020.
It is also an opportunity to highlight the special role that public engagement plays in ERC projects, where such activities are not specifically required by the programme's scientific excellence criteria but they activities are eligible for funding and encouraged by the ERC through this contest and many other communication activities.
We were delighted to have Tony Lockett and Beatrice Thiry from the ERC Executive Agency's Communication Unit who provided a presentation and insights into the competition.
Who is the webinar for?
The session is primarily for ERC grantees who are eligible to apply for the competition. The contest rules set out the eligibility rules for ERC grantees who are eligible to apply: "All Principal Investigators in an ERC frontier research project, that is either ongoing or has ended on or after 31/12/2019, are eligible to apply. In case of ongoing ERC frontier research projects, only activities completed by the submission deadline can be included in the application."
Grantee's team members and support staff are also encouraged to apply, and anyone who is interested in applying for ERC funding may find the webinar useful for their planning, even if eligibility would depend on successfully being awarded an ERC grant in the future.
