ERC 2021 Starting Grant: Call Information Webinars (18 & 19 February)
The UK Research Office (UKRO), in its capacity as UK National Contact Point for the Horizon 2020 European Research Council (ERC), held a webinar for organisations and individuals interested in applying to the 2021 ERC Starting Grant Call. The call is due to open on 25 February 2021 with a deadline of 8 April 2021. These webinars replaced the NCP information events which usually take place in the UK.

Aim of the Webinars
These webinars provided participants with a detailed practical overview of the ERC Starting Grant scheme. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the proposal format and the key issues they are required to address in planning, writing and costing a proposal. The evaluation procedure and how to approach writing an application were also explained.
Who attended?
The sessions were aimed at researchers based in, or moving to, the UK who are planning to submit a proposal to the 2021 ERC Starting Grant call, and the research support staff who will be supporting these applications. Applicants are expected to be active researchers and to have a track record of excellent research.
Programme outline
Webinar 1: Thursday 18 February (10:00 – 12:00 UK time) - provided an initial overview of the European Research Council and what an ERC Starting Grant is; UK participation in the ERC; eligibility criteria and proposal development.
Webinar 2: Friday 19 February (10:00 – 12:00 UK time) - provided information on the submission process, how proposals are evaluated and other elements to consider when designing a project for your big research idea.
