Synergy Grants
The ERC has introduced a new pilot scheme, called Synergy Grants (SyG), in the 2012 ERC Work Programme.
Synergy Grants will enable small groups of two to four Principal Investigators (PIs) and their teams to bring together complementary skills, knowledge, and resources, in order to jointly address research problems at the frontier of knowledge going beyond what the individual PIs could achieve alone.
The peer review evaluation will therefore look for proposals that demonstrate the synergies, complementarities and added value that could lead to breakthroughs that would not be possible by the individual PIs working alone.
ERC Synergy Grants will fund projects for groups of between two and four PIs (with a designated Lead Principal Investigator) who are excellent researchers, to undertake frontier research of their choice. As for existing ERC schemes, the PIs can also apply for funding for team members. The PIs can be from different disciplines or can be working in the same/similar fields, and they can be based either at the same or different institutions.
