ERC Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General Questions

Qu: How do the indirect costs work for the ERC?
Ans: The ERC grant agreement foresees a flat-rate financing for indirect costs. The indirect costs are equal to 20% of the direct eligible costs (minus subcontracting costs and costs of resources made available by third parties which are not used in the premises of the beneficiary). This applies to any type of host organisation (known as a beneficiary), whatever costing method this beneficiary is subject to for other European Research (FP7) projects. This means also that no beneficiary will be asked to prove that it spent this 20%, this is a flat-rate that will simply be applied to the direct costs claimed.

Qu: When are the results for Step 2 expected? (updated 09/08/10)

Ans:

Please note that information on the outcome of individual proposals is sent by email directly from the ERC to the applicants. Unfortunately UKRO does not have access to individual results.

Please also do remember to tell the ERC if there have been any changes to the contact email addresses which you listed on your proposal. You may also wish to check your junk mail folder, and that you put the correct email address on your application form, as these have been the most common reasons for people not receiving notifications in the past.

The notifications for step 2 results will be sent out in batches as follows:

Category PE Domain LS Domain SH Domain

Applicants whose proposals are selected for funding are then invited to the 'granting process' where the Grant Agreement between the ERC and the beneficiary will be prepared. This is likely to take a few months.

Qu: How are the evaluation results announced? (added 19/02/10)
Ans: The ERC is using a dedicated web-based system to notify the applicants called “Feedback to Applicants” (F2A).  Applicants were emailed when the results are available and were be invited to register on F2A to access their file. They will then be able to access letters relating to their results.  Administrators at their Host Institution will also be able to access the results letters on F2A

Qu: Will the PI get feedback, and at which step of the evaluation? (added 19/02/10)
Ans: Feedback is given, but only once the funding decision has been made - so those who do not pass Step 1 of the evaluation will receive feedback at the end of Step 1, whereas those through to Step 2 of the evaluation will not get feedback until the end of Step 2.

Qu: What type of feedback will the PI be given? (added 19/02/10)
Ans: Applicants will receive an evaluation summary report (ESR) which contains the evaluation scores as well as the comments from the evaluators and panel members. This will be made available on the Feedback to Applicants (F2A) online system, and will be available to both the Principal Investigator (PI) and administrative official at the PI's Host Institution.
